Project Overview
My goal was to create a cohesive, personalised stationery suite that reflected the couple’s theme and added a meaningful touch to their guest experience. I aimed to craft a distinctive design that aligned with the wedding’s aesthetic while providing a consistent and elegant experience across all elements, from save-the-dates to table décor and thank-you cards.
Objectives
I was asked by close friends to design a complete set of wedding stationery for their special day. This included save-the-date cards, formal invitations, menus, programs, place cards, and thank-you notes, each carefully crafted to reflect their unique story and the overall theme of the celebration.
Design Approach
The process began with an in-depth meeting with the couple to understand their vision, style, and key details such as date, location, colour palette, and the required stationery items.
I created a mood board to visually communicate the aesthetic, showcasing typography, colour schemes, paper types, and design themes. I then developed 2–3 initial design concepts inspired by their brief and mood board. Presenting multiple concepts allowed for constructive feedback and ensured the design aligned with their vision.
After reviewing the concepts, the couple wanted short, direct wording paired with elegant watercolour florals, soft borders, and hand-drawn illustrations. I incorporated these elements to make the suite feel more romantic, emotional, and unique to their story.
Outcome
Once the design was finalised, I agreed on print specifications for each item, including paper stock, format, folds, and finishes. For example, the drinks menu was designed as a 4 x 8 inch, double-sided booklet on 120 gsm hammered paper, folded to stand upright on tables while remaining easy to handle, adding a tactile, thoughtful touch to the guest experience.
I prepared high-resolution, print-ready files in CMYK with bleeds and trim marks, proofed each piece at home, and assembled the stationery sets. Each set was secured with a coordinated belly band and carefully packaged for delivery to ensure everything arrived in perfect condition.
Conclusion
By using cream watercolour florals and golden borders, I created a cohesive theme across all stationery items with a consistent visual language that felt personalised to the couple’s story.
The final suite included:
A4 gatefold invitations
A5 save-the-date cards
A7 RSVP cards
A5 order of service booklets
A2 table plan
12 individual table number cards
100 x 100 mm place cards for each guest
4 x 8 inch drinks and food menus
A5 thank-you cards with matching personalised envelopes
Each piece followed a consistent visual theme and contributed to the overall aesthetic of the celebration.
Results
The project was completed three weeks ahead of schedule, giving the couple ample time to review and prepare. The final suite was praised for its thoughtful design, cohesive aesthetic, and high-quality finish. The couple particularly appreciated the personal touches and attention to detail, noting that the stationery beautifully reflected their style and enhanced the overall atmosphere of the celebration.
This project demonstrated my ability to translate a personal story into a refined, cohesive visual experience, balancing creativity with practicality to deliver a meaningful and memorable design outcome.
