Project Overview
I was tasked with designing a full-colour, double-sided A5 portrait flyer for an Easter egg hunt taking place in 2024 at Apley Woods. The flyer needed to promote the event in a way that was engaging and approachable, appealing to both children and families while encouraging community participation.

Objectives
The client asked for a modern and playful design that would be clear and easy to understand for a younger audience. My goal was to create a flyer that attracted children aged 8–12, using visual elements that captured the excitement of the event while still being accessible to parents and included informational signage.

Design Approach
I began with an initial client briefing to gather key information for the poster, including event details, date, and any additional requirements for the flyer. I then researched Easter-themed visual elements and layout ideas to establish a clear visual hierarchy. The focus was on creating playful, engaging design elements that would appeal to children and families, such as bold colours, friendly typography, and whimsical imagery.

I started with hand-drawn sketches to explore possible poster concepts, which were presented to the client for feedback. Once a concept was selected, I created the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, incorporating Easter eggs and a simplified map of Apley Woods. The final layout was developed in Adobe InDesign using a spring-inspired colour palette and clean sans-serif typefaces to ensure readability. The completed flyer successfully balances fun, child-friendly visuals with clear, accessible information, using bright seasonal colours and playful illustrations to create a cheerful Easter atmosphere.

Outcome
After refining the content and layout, I emailed the client a proof of the artwork so they could review the design for layout, text, and colour accuracy, helping to reduce errors before final approval for print. Once the artwork was approved, I conducted a test print to check colour accuracy, contrast, and overall readability, ensuring the text was clear, headings stood out, and the layout did not feel crowded.

The test print also helped identify any layout and spacing issues, such as tight margins, elements too close to trim lines, or image quality concerns. After making final adjustments, I exported the artwork in CMYK as a print-ready PDF with bleeds and crop marks and arranged for professional A5 printing.

On the front, a bold, rounded headline highlighted the event name, with the date and location displayed prominently in pastel tones. Easter eggs, butterflies, and floral motifs added a light-hearted, engaging feel. On the reverse, I designed a clean layout with strong hierarchy to present event details, alongside informational signage in the form of a custom map of Apley Woods featuring colour-coded paths and markers to guide participants through the egg hunt.

Conclusion
The flyer successfully captured the playful and inviting atmosphere of the event while clearly communicating all key information. It was visually appealing, easy to follow, and well-received by both the client and the local community.

Results
The client reported a 75% increase in interest and attendance, attributing part of the success to the flyer’s engaging design and clarity. This project demonstrated my ability to combine illustration with strategic layout and print design, resulting in a purposeful piece that connected with a broad community audience.
