Project Overview
Telford Wasps Scooter Club™ was a local scooter club seeking to strengthen their presence and grow within the scooter scene community. I was commissioned by the club’s owner to design a new logo and develop a cohesive range of on-brand merchandise to help the club attract members, connect with like-minded individuals and provide a visual identity suitable for organised rides and events.

Objectives
The primary objective of this project was to create a stand-out logo and visual identity that could be applied consistently across merchandise and event materials. My goal was to help the club attract new members, build a community among like-minded individuals, and create a visual identity suitable for organised rides and events.

Design Process
I began the design process with an in-depth formal conversation with the club’s owner to understand their story, audience, and project requirements. During this stage, I gathered insights into budget restraints and timeline for the project. The club’s audience was primarily an older generation of scooter enthusiasts in and around Telford, people who value community, shared passion, and the traditions of club membership.

To establish a strong visual foundation, I researched existing scooter club logos and elements of mod culture, learning about the symbols, aesthetics, and traditions that define the scooterist community. I used this research to generate moodboards and sketches for logo concepts to ensure that the final design was authentic to the culture and distinctive to the club.

Outcome
The client chose a dynamic wasp mascot with clenched fists and a forward-leaning posture as the design captured strength and confidence while giving the logo a sense of movement. The posture and expression reflected the club’s assertiveness while creating a memorable identity that stands out and instantly connects with the community.

After client approval, I refined the selected concept in Adobe Illustrator for small merchandise, focusing on legibility and scalability. Simplified shapes and fine-tuned typography ensured clarity and impact across stickers, pin badges, and larger event materials.

To keep the visual identity consistent, I incorporated a yellow, black, and white colour palette with a checkered banner, taking subtle inspiration from racing culture. I focused on making the design versatile so that it could work across any application.

  • Small cotton banner with eyelets

The new logo and visual identity were well received by both the club’s owner and new members. Results
The new branding contributed to a 45% growth in the club’s social media presence, helping the Telford Wasps Scooter Club establish themselves as a cohesive and recognisable group within the scooterist community. Overall, the project strengthened the club’s identity and created a solid foundation for ongoing engagement and connection among members.
